How to Choose the Right Tech Stack for Your Website

Every few months a new framework arrives promising to change everything. It's easy to feel like you're falling behind if you're not using the latest thing. But the right tech stack for your website has very little to do with what's fashionable, and everything to do with what fits.

Start with the job, not the tool

Before anyone mentions a framework, the real questions are about you. How often will the content change? Who needs to edit it? Does it need to plug into a CRM, a booking system or a payment provider? A brochure site, an e-commerce store and a web app all have different needs, and choosing the tool first is like buying materials before you've seen the plans.

The best technology is the one your business can still work with in three years, not the one that looked exciting this quarter.

Weigh the things that actually cost you later

  • Maintainability - can it be updated safely, and will developers other than the original builder understand it?
  • Editability - can your team manage day-to-day content without calling in help?
  • Performance - does it stay fast as it grows?
  • Longevity - is it well supported, or a niche choice you'll be stuck maintaining alone?

Boring, proven and well-supported almost always beats exciting and fragile. A stack nobody else can work on is a liability disguised as innovation.

We choose materials like a good builder

Our approach to Web Development & Support is to pick technology the way a good builder picks materials: for how it performs under load and how easy it is to work with later. Sometimes that's a modern headless setup, sometimes an established CMS - it depends entirely on the job in front of us.

If you're planning a build and drowning in options, we're happy to help you cut through them.

This is one of the things we do every day. See how we can help with Web Development & Support.
